Ben Conner is a native Houstonian.  He attended the University of Texas in Austin, graduating with a degree in Horology.  Mr.  Conner has been a practicing watchmaker in Houston for 30 years.  He is past-President of both the local and state watchmaking associations and has been a delegate to the national watch-making association’s convention several times.

The Field of Horology: Development, Metallurgy, and Manufacture of Watches and Timepieces

In the 500 years since the inception of mechanical watchmaking, watchmaking and metallurgy have made tremendous strides.  Both fields have gone from primitive beginnings to the current advanced state they currently enjoy.  We will examine the beginning of this process in 15th Century Europe, the development of mechanization in the 19th Century and the final advances in the 20th Century.
