7:30 - Speaker : Rex McLellan – Hydrogen in Metals - New ideas on Hydrogen Embrittlement

Together with Professor F. R. Brotzen, Dr. Rex McLellan worked with the Local Chapter of ASM and the Houston Independent School District to instigate the ASM's "Parker Plan". This is a course for high school teachers giving them insight into Materials Science and helping them to bring this topic into their high school curricula. Fifteen local high school teachers took the course.

Professor McLellan has taught five courses to local area engineers on various aspects of meatallurgy. These courses, sponsored by the ASM, have been held at Rice University. Professor McLellan has helped to teach two evening courses at Rice for engineers. These courses were arranged through the Office of Continuing Studies at Rice.

Hydrogen in Metals - New ideas on Hydrogen Embrittlement

Introducing new ideas on the topic of hydrogen in metals.

New ideas concerning the propagation velocity of cracks in hydrogen-embrittled metals. These ideas stem from work on the strong interaction between hydrogen atoms and vacant sites in metal lattices. This will center on the thermodynamics and kinetics of these systems.
