High Performance Tubulars

With deeper and deeper wells being drilled on land and offshore in today's oil and gas environment, the need for high quality, high performance casing products has never been greater. Bruce Urband, Chief Metallurgist, Grant Prideco Tubular, Technology and Service Division, will present information on high collapsible, sour service tubulars and enhanced burst casing. Bruce will discuss high performance casing production, testing and application with special emphasis on string design.  API specifications 5CT (ISO 11960), 5C3 (ISO 10400) and NACE standards TM0177 and MR0175 (ISO 15156) for sour tubulars will be referenced. The new Tamano rating methodology and enhanced tubular burst rating will also be discussed.

Bruce Urband is a degreed Metallurgical Engineer from University of Oklahoma, graduated in 1974. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas with over 30 years experience in oil tools especially tubular technology. He has held positions of plant metallurgist, quality assurance manager, operations manager and most recently as assistant director responsible for tubular standards and R/D. Currently he is Engineering Manager & Chief Metallurgist for TCA Products of Grant Prideco Tubular Technology and Services Division, the leading producer of high performance down-hole tubulars, drill stem and drill bit products. Bruce is chairman of API Sour Service tubulars committee and NACE TG on sour service testing (TM0177).

Materials Selection and Inherently Safe Design

A pragmatic look at risk based materials selection, materials performance, corrosion assessment, corrosion allowance, and failure histories, with considerations regarding the increasing role of life cycle Integrity and Corrosion Management. The presentation will examine the role of Inherently Safe Design as a methodology geared towards meeting performance objectives with emphasis on minimizing inspection and maximizing safety. The talk will reflect on relevant case examples, and invite a dialogue on this very important subject. The work will cover  pipeline and offshore but also include other industries.

Dr Binder Singh has a B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering from Liverpool University UK, and M.S. and Ph.D. Corrosion Science and Engineering from UMIST- Manchester University UK. He is an UK Chartered Engineer, and Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Dr Singh has over 25 years Corrosion and Materials engineering experience covering the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Marine, and Power Industries. Chairman NACE Houston Section 2004/2005 session and Past Chair/Advisor 2005/2006 session.
