Materials/Corrosion Engineering

Position Description:
The materials engineer will provide general support to plant operations by conducting corrosion studies, failure analysis and other materials of construction related projects. 
They will also be responsible for supporting capital projects by selecting materials of construction for new plants and equipment. A knowledge of corrosion, failure analysis, non destructive testing, metallic and non metallic materials of construction as well as chemical process equipment and process design is needed in this role.  

Education:
Qualified candidates will possess either a BS or MS in Engineering with academic projects and/or work experience (co-op or intern) related to corrosion.
 
Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a team environment.

  • Conducts failure analysis of welded components
  • Examination of technical requirements of contracts and to reach a mutual resolution of contracts with clientele
  • Submission of welding procedures thatmeet customer and code requirements

  • Provide guidance on the Rules for Materials and welding technical advice
  • Maintain records of welder certification tests

Qualifications:

  • Preference would be at least two years experience in a similar position.

The Test Coordinator will provide a liaison between the client and the test lab to ensure projects routed from order entry to final test certificates. Routine projects fall within ASTM, API1104, DNV, and CSA procedures. The Test Coordinator will also create and maintain a work plan of all testing tasks, will ensure the quality of the test and offer recommendations on migration of code into production

  • Determine what tests will be needed, write descriptions of tests, test writing guidelines, editing process, deadline for tests

  • Review specs
  • Monitor production on current projects
  • Review certificates

  • Perform failure analysis and fracture surface evaluation
  • May be required to go on site and evaluate failures and perform on-site testing.

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science

U.S Test Technician (Metallurgical)

Our Houston North Lab office is currently looking for a Full Time Metallurgical Test Technician

Reporting to the Department Manager, the lab technician is responsible to prepare micro and macro specimens of different alloys for evaluation. You will also cut, grind, mount and polish specimens manually. You will also identify, and etch the specimens as well as prepare the etching solutions.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, monitor heat treat loads,
  • Complete heat treat documents and records
  • Prepare thermal couples
  • Testing of prepared specimens for hardness (Rockwell, Vickers, Knoop) macro and microphotography and assisted metallurgical evaluations.
  • Perform daily calibration checks on machines or operations as needed
  • Preparation of tests samples by sectioning with precision abrasive saws and grinding/polishing of specimens.

Education:

  • Minimum high school
  • Must have at least 2-5yrs lab experience
  • Basic office skills, computer, word, excel, etc.
  • Read, write and speak English, also use of hand tools

Metallurgical / Welding Engineer

Welding Engineer

Perform functions to provide support to Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Sales, Marketing, and Research and Development departments on matters related to materials and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES The incumbent will undertake any or all of the following:

  • Assign worldwide VGS numbers for materials.
  • Develop and review worldwide specifications for welding and materials.
  • Maintain engineering records and files for future availability.
  • Develop new weld procedures, as a minimum, in accordance with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 and/or customer specific requirement as applicable.
  • Work independently on projects in support of Engineering, Materials Engineering and research and development efforts as appropriate.
  • Participate in industry organizations and professional societies as requested.
  • Evaluate and promote the use of new materials and processes to enhance VGI's competitive position.
  • Comply with all applicable quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or indicated by responsibilities.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

Must have basic knowledge of metallurgy and welding processes, with broad based knowledge of materials production and selection criteria.  Knowledge of the performance characteristics and processing methods of metallic materials in oil and gas applications preferred.  Must communicate effectively, both written and verbal.

Entry level metallurgist/materials engineer
