The current topic Vacuum Heat Treating Incorporating High Pressure Gas Quenching includes theory of high pressure gas quenching which has been around for some time. The presentation will also discuss theory of bar verses velocity. Gas flow, motor sizes and fan designs will be included in the discussion. Roger has published various technical papers in Industrial Heating, Advanced Materials and Processes and Heat Treating Progress.

Roger A. Jones is Corporate President of Solar Atmospheres, headquartered in Souderton, Pennsylvania and an active ASM Trustee. He attended Hocking Technical College in 1974 studying heat processing technology and has taken selective metallurgical courses at ASM and other technical organizations. In 1975 Roger joined ABAR Corporations heat treat division. In 1978 he joined his father, William R. Jones who founded Vacuum Furnace Systems Corporation. The company manufactured vacuum heat treating & brazing furnaces. In 1983 Roger assisted in start-up of Solar Atmospheres Inc. and was named Vice President and was promoted to President of Solar AtmospheresInc in 1993. In 2001 he was promoted to Corporate President of Solars Hermitage, Pennsylvania facility.

Roger was Chairman of Atlantic Coast Chapter in 1994 and is a member of Metal Treating Institute since 1983. He is currently chairman of Program Committee and has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1998 and the most recently as President, 2004-2005. Roger has been a member of ASM Philadelphia Liberty Bell Chapter since 1980 and has chaired nine committees. Roger was Philadelphia Chapter Chairman during 1993-1994 and currently serves as Awards Committee Chair. Philadelphia Chapter awards include 1989 Young Members Award, 1998 Delaware Valley Materials Person of the Year Award, 2001 William Hunt Eisenman Award and 2004 Distinguished Service Award. MTI awards include 2002 Presidents and the Program Service Awards. Roger has chaired Membership, ASM/HTS Immediate Needs, ASM/HTS Education Committees at ASM International. Roger has also served on Nominating Committee for two years and ASM/HTS T&P Committee for a year. In 2005 Roger was appointed to the ASM/HTS International Board which he plans to serve until 2008.
