A History of Steel

Iron and steel has been a cornerstone of the growth of our industrial society. From the primitive smelters of antiquity through the massive blast furnaces of today, mankind has continually created new and improved methods to convert a simple ore into steel. The speaker will give a narrative on this evolution through a variety of means including archival and contemporary video footage and graphics.

Troy Powell is a graduate in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1986. He has worked in for the Timken Company Steel Division for 25 years in Sales & Marketing and Product Engineering. He also received his Masters Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston and his MBA from the University of Texas, Austin. He has been an active member in the Houston ASM Chapter since 1991.
