Port of Houston: Yesterday and Today

Houston was a town that built a port that built a city.  Learn about the unique history behind our region’s largest economic engine and its impact on today. The talk will cover the history of the port, the state of the port and the impact of the Panama Canal.

Leslie Herbst
Community Relations Manager

Leslie Herbst joined Port Houston in 2012 and is the Director of the Community Relations & Events Department, which focuses on outreach activities involving Port of Houston community stakeholders.

Prior to joining Port Houston, Herbst held several positions in the Donor Relations Department at United Way of Greater Houston, where she managed the Loaned Executive program and also focused on Houston-area young leaders.  While at United Way, she was also selected to be a member of the inaugural Global Fellowship program, which was comprised of 25 young professionals from United Ways around the world who addressed global issues in the areas of non-profit fundraising and community investment.   Her work in the local community began with her career at Crime Stoppers of Houston, the nation’s No. 1 crime tip line.  Prior to graduating with honors from Texas A&M University, she interned with the FBI field office in Houston, shadowing special agents in the White Collar Crime Division.
